  • Preparing Joomla!Day Germany 2009

Its less then a month to go until I will present a couple of talks during the Joomla!Day Germany 2009 in Bad Nauheim. With Robert in the back I need to prepare the slides soon and I think the other speakers will do so as well. Beside the fact that the venue is just awesome this will become one of the most exciting events of this year. The Joomla!Day with its Community focused event on Saturday is a true  Community event which will give you the opportunity to talk with current and former core developers of the Joomla project. Speak to people from around the globe about your ideas and wishes related to the project. Yes we are getting more and more information about world wide community members attending the event and this is not only from Europe but from other regions too - stay exited and watch the news ;-).

During the two seminar and conference days, starting on Thursday with the second world wide Virtuemart Day, you get not only news and information but also are able to attend seminars lead by core developers of the various extensions. You can gain a lot of information for your own business and increase your Joomla network. On the Joomla Business and Community Day you will get information on how to use Joomla in an professional, school, governmental or high profile environment. Community members like:

  • Webinar: Introducing an Accessible Administrator Template

Websites and web authoring programs need to be accessible to those with visual or other disabilities. Until now, the back-end administrator functions of Joomla! have not met current assessibility standards. In her GSoc 2009 project, Andrea Tarr has changed that and created an accessible administrator template for Joomla. Click here to view Andrea's 20-minute webinar where she discusses and demonstrates her project. Way to go, Andrea!

  • Webinar: Introducing JImageLib

Did you ever need an easy way to create thumbnails, add a watermark, or do other types of image processing in Joomla? If so, you should check out Daniel Ghilea's JImageLib extension. For his GSoC 2009 project, he has created a library of built-in functions that make it incredibly easy to do all sorts of image processing inside your Joomla! extension or website. Click here to view his 20-minute webinar where he demonstrates the power of this extension. Great job, Daniel!

  • Webinar: Introducing civiCRM Modules

If you are familiar with the popular program civiCRM program, you may know that, until now, most of it's functionality has been focussed on the back-end administrative area. In his GSoC 2009 project, Nakul Ganesh S has added a number of front-end views and modules for civiCRM. Along the way, he has also improved the way civiCRM is installed on a Joomla! site. Click here to view his 22-minute webinar where he demostrates the results of his work. Congratulations, Nakul!

  • Welcome Indonesian and Azeri

This latest month we welcomed a new Indonesian Translation Team, and they already provided the
local end users with Indonesian site and admin language packs for lastest 1.5.14.
This week we could also welcome a new Azeri Translation Team, and they too provided the local end users
with site and admin language packs for 1.5.14

Mongolian team has provided site pack for a while, and are now very close to have a full package ready.

So why does this matter? May not matter much to the english native speaker, but for the millions
of speakers and end users of these "foreign" languages it does make an important difference.

Everybody should be able to use their preferred cms software in their native language, and for each
translation we can add we are getting a little closer to fulfilling that goal.

Next we hope to add a new Hindi Translation Team, and we are currently in contact with more translators
from India who wish to maintain language packs for Hindi and several other Indian languages.

Joomla can speak every language and currently support +50 languages from active Translation Teams worldwide.
We certainly hope that Hindi is next, meaning that a potential ½ billion speakers can use joomla in their own language...

Is your language supported? Check it out here:
